چکیده

The purpose of our experiment was to examine whether the cyclooxygenase inhibitor indomethacin ameliorates neuronal injury in the gerbil hippocampal CA, sector following 5 minutes of forebrain ischemia. Thirty minutes before bilateral carotid artery occlusion, Mongolian gerbils were injected intraperitoneally with 1 (n = 10), 2 (n = 10), S (n = 12), or 10 (n = 7) mg/kg of indomethacin. Seven days after occlusion, the gerbils were perfusion-fixed and neuronal density in the hippocampal CA, sector was assessed. The mean±SEM neuronal density in nine unoperated normal gerbils was 307±9/mm, in 10 untreated ischemic gerbils 55±21/mm, and in seven vehicle-treated ischemic gerbils 15 ± 9/mm. The mean ± SEM neuronal density in ischemic gerbils treated with 1,2,5, or 10 mg/kg indomethacin was 132 ± 28/mm, 154 ± 29/mm, 176 ± 30/mm, and 136 ± 39/mm, respectively. Indomethacin at any dose significantly ameliorated ischemic neuronal damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA, sector. (Stroke 1988;19:1399-1403)

[Effect of indomethacin on delayed neuronal death of hippocampal CA1 sector in gerbil under different levels of controlled cranial temperatures].

Effect of indomethacin on post-ischemic changes of CA1 neurons was studied in the hippocampus of the Mongolian gerbil. The gerbil was employed because due to poor development of posterior communicating artery ischemia could be easily induced in the forebrain simply by occluding bilateral common carotid arteries. Indomethacin (5 mg/kg, i.p.) was administered 30 min before the occlusion. The occl...

Effect of ischemic preconditioning on the expression of c-myb in the CA1 region of the gerbil hippocampus after ischemia/reperfusion injury

Objective(s): In the present study, we investigated the effect of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on c-myb immunoreactivity as well as neuronal damage/death after a subsequent lethal transient ischemia in gerbils. Materials and Methods: IPC was subjected to a 2 min sublethal ischemia and a lethal transient ischemia was given 5 min transient ischemia. The animals in all of the groups were given ...

Difference in transient ischemia-induced neuronal damage and glucose transporter-1 immunoreactivity in the hippocampus between adult and young gerbils

Objective(s): The alteration of glucose transporters is closely related with the pathogenesis of brain edema. We compared neuronal damage/death in the hippocampus between adult and young gerbils following transient cerebral ischemia/reperfusion and changes of glucose transporter-1(GLUT-1)-immunoreactive microvessels in their ischemic hippocampal CA1 region. Materials and Methods: Transient cere...

Effect of mannitol, nimodipine, and indomethacin singly or in combination on cerebral ischemia in rats.

The effects of mannitol, nimodipine, and indomethacin on ischemic neuronal injury were examined in 45 rats divided equally into nine groups subjected to 10 minutes of forebrain ischemia. Of two control groups, one received maintenance fluids while the other received a normal saline bolus. In the remaining seven groups, mannitol, nimodipine, and indomethacin were administered singly or in combin...
